My primary purpose is guiding people to love living life in a body...

I love to play. I'm curious about what it means to be human: what's our purpose in this body? I hold strong beliefs and boundaries while also pushing the edges of some of life's "rules" – particularly those that tell us to feel shameful, unsatisfied and in a constant battle with our bodies. All the "shoulds" we carry around living in a human body deserve to be questioned, critiqued and challenged.

Through my work as a Nia Black Belt and massage therapist hopefully offering fulfilling and healing experiences, I aim to encourage people to find dynamic ease, relaxation, joy and a captivated sense of gratitude for their precious epithelial vessels.

As a passionate movement facilitator, I've had the amazing opportunity to share Nia Technique classes for over 10 years to over 600 students including an amazing 8 years as adjunct faculty in the University of New Mexico’s College of Education Physical Education Program.

My education and experience in The Nia Technique, yoga, mindfulness, bodywork, studies of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology informs my deep and playful curiosity in how to heal with movement; whether dancing or receiving massage.

The summer I turned 16 I lived in northern France with a family sealing the deal on my wanderlust, love of travel and anthropological leanings. I've lived in Benin, West Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer, studied in college in Dublin, Ireland and traveled to Wales, England, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, Costa Rica, Mexico, Namibia, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Uruguay and, of course, Hawaii!

Come enjoy great music, fun, community and movement exploration in one of my classes. The invitation is always to simply show up – shine – and let it go! Of course, when I'm not dancing or doing/teaching bodywork, I'm hanging with these two amaze-dogs!

What is Nia?

Nia Technique™ is a dance fitness practice that provides safe and effective exercise that fuses multiple movement forms; it inspires people to be healthy and fit while learning body literacy and awareness. Nia blends a combination of dance arts, such as jazz and modern, with martial arts, inspired by aikido and tai chi, all with the perspectives of healing arts, such as yoga and the Alexander Technique. Nia is a barefooted movement program designed to increase participants awareness of physical sensations, build strength and stamina, and increase flexibility and balance, all while having fun. And we do it to great music!the And we do it to great music!

Debbie Rosas describes the essence of Nia.

deepen your Nia practice with an intensive belt training

Nia White Belt Training takes you on a journey of self-discovery exploring the art of sensation your body's way. Beginning with the Joy of Movement, you learn 13 principles for body-centered awareness. Each principle teaches you a variety of somatic skills for connecting to physical sensation in your body. Through the science, craft and art of sensation, you will learn Nia's body-centered approach to health, wellness and fitness. Crafting with sensation is the starting point for all Nia teachers. The Art of Sensation is what brings magic to the Nia class experience.

The Art of Sensation is rooted in Nia's philosophy of The Body's Way. Sensation guides you to create health and vitality by moving your body in ways that feel good. Nia White Belt teaches you to develop body literacy - the ability to listen to your body, making choices that lead to health and total body well-being. Find a training here.

Bodywork & Therapeutic Massage

LMT #7494

After nine years as the executive director of a local non-profit I was looking for a new path and was eventually led towards NM School of Natural Therapeutics from which I graduated in September 2012.

As a graduate of the NMSNT I aim to help people find ease, relaxation and comfort in their bodies. Using a variety of modalities, including Swedish massage, polarity therapy, reflexology, myofascial release my goal is to assist each individual client in achieving relaxation, the place where the body heals and rehabilitates.

Use the calendar on the right to book appointments. Saturday, Sunday and after hours by request.

I accept cash, checks, credit cards and payment via PayPal. *On-site chair massage available at a rate of $1/minute, plus a location fee of $25.
