Theme

Il dolce far niente is an Italian phrase that literally means “the sweetness of doing nothing" and it accurately describes how I hope this retreat will unfold.

It’s a lovely idea to consider, the gift of non-doing, in a world which celebrates and rewards production and consumption; contemplating the sweetness of doing nothing feels delightfully rebellious.

You don’t need a reason to come or to justify your need to care for yourself; rest is a necessary and nourishing component in the cycle of daily life. You don’t need to be burned out or in need of a break to join a retreat. So, come on up, join me in New Mexico this October.

The fifth offering of this retreat (formerly my Natural Time Nia Retreat) will be held October 20-22, 2023 under the star-filled skies of northern New Mexico. We’ll be hosted at the Vista Verde Retreat Center in Carson, New Mexico just west of Taos, New Mexico and tucked into the juniper, sage and piñons.

More about this retreat

Becoming present to natural time allows us to discover our own rhythms, ways of learning, moving and being in the world. Natural time is based on the cycles and rhythms around us, not dictated by a mechanical clock focused on tracking time.t teaches us to move at our own pace, to our own depths and in response to our individual impulses and to even, do nothing! We can connect to natural time by connecting to the world around us, our senses, expression and creativity and, that is precisely what this weekend retreat invites you to do.

We organize our weekend around grooving and grub with plenty of freedom for you to move at your own pace and choosing what feels right for you; nothing is compulsory. You’ll have the opportunity for movement, stillness and exploration – to simply enjoy your day as you see fit.

About Vista Verde

Vista Verde Retreat sits on 40 acres of land on the west edge of the Taos Gorge surrounded by juniper and piñon trees. There is a beautiful sprung wood dance floor for our Nia classes and lots of space to be outdoors, with two hiking trails looping through the natural surroundings, a ceremonial sand circle, an outdoor fire pit and labyrinth. With no television or cell service you can’t help but disconnect and plug into natural time (though, if absolutely necessary a landline and WiFi are available). Nearby, there are a variety of unique day trips and activities from Taos gallery touring and the Taos Pueblo to viewing the Rio Grande Gorge or the Earthship Biotecture. A short 25 minute drive takes you to the famous Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs where you can soak in the healing mineral waters of northern New Mexico. Hiking and walking trails abound.

One of the great views from Vista Verde towards Taos, NM.
